Illinois-Iowa Thunderstorms: Tornado Near Macomb, Hail in Keosauqua Thursday

Macomb, IL – Severe thunderstorms on Thursday produced a confirmed tornado near Macomb, IL, and large hail in Keosauqua, IA. The National Weather Service (NWS) reported the tornado struck early in the evening, though no confirmed damage has been reported yet. Hail up to three inches in diameter also pelted Keosauqua, causing significant property damage.

According to the NWS, Keokuk, IA experienced wind gusts of 70 mph, while rural northern Clark County, MO, near the Iowa border, saw nearly three inches of rain in approximately 90 minutes. These severe conditions led to localized flooding and storm damage across the region.

Residents are encouraged to report any damage through the NWS website to aid meteorologists in tracking the storm’s impact and improving future forecasts. Officials stress the importance of preparedness and vigilance during severe weather events to ensure safety and minimize property damage.
