Quad Cities, Iowa/Illinois – Heavy rain is expected to drench the Quad Cities and surrounding areas through the early morning hours Friday, raising concerns about flash flooding, especially in neighborhoods already soaked by up to 4 inches of rain Thursday night.
According to the National Weather Service Quad Cities, storms are rapidly advancing along the I-80 corridor, bringing frequent lightning, torrential downpours, and damaging winds. A flood watch remains in effect for central and eastern Iowa into western Illinois until late Friday, with the heaviest impacts expected between 1 a.m. and 4 a.m. Friday. The most numerous storms are forecast across the Quad Cities, including Davenport, Bettendorf, Rock Island, and Moline.
Travel may become dangerous overnight as heavy rainfall leads to flooded roads, low-lying fields, and basement flooding. Damaging winds could down trees and fences, while persistent lightning increases hazards for anyone outdoors. Local agencies urge residents to avoid driving through flooded streets—turn around, don’t drown.
Rain chances will taper after sunrise, but more scattered storms remain possible Friday. Residents should monitor updates and be prepared for additional advisories, especially if heavy rainfall returns later in the day.
Flood watch remains active through late Friday—more alerts may be issued if storms persist.
