Davenport, Iowa – A dangerous stretch of triple-digit heat will bake parts of Iowa, Illinois, and northeast Missouri from Saturday afternoon through Monday evening, with heat index values reaching up to 105°.
According to the National Weather Service in the Quad Cities, a Heat Advisory is in effect from noon Saturday until 8 p.m. Monday, covering cities including Cedar Rapids, Dubuque, Davenport, Rock Island, Sterling, and Macomb. The advisory warns of extreme heat and humidity with little overnight relief, as low temperatures will only fall into the upper 70s.
Residents in Rock Island, Johnson, Linn, and Muscatine Counties should take immediate precautions. Prolonged exposure could lead to heat exhaustion or stroke, especially for those without access to air conditioning. Vulnerable groups—including children, seniors, and outdoor workers—are at increased risk.
Limit outdoor activity, hydrate frequently, and never leave people or pets in parked cars. Power usage may also spike, so utility companies urge customers to conserve energy where possible.
This early summer heat wave mirrors the June 2021 event that strained regional power grids and sent dozens to emergency rooms.
The Heat Advisory remains in effect through 8 p.m. Monday, and additional warnings may be issued if conditions worsen.
