Cold air grips the Quad Cities region this morning, cutting across the Mississippi River like a blade. Skies remain clear, but temperatures near 8°F and wind chills dipping to –15°F make early errands feel like mid-January. Forecasters warn the deep freeze isn’t done — and light snow may soon follow.

According to the National Weather Service in the Quad Cities, subzero wind chills between 10° and 25° below zero will persist through early Friday. Friday itself stays cold but mostly sunny, with highs barely touching 30°F. The next change arrives Saturday evening, when a quick-moving disturbance could drop 1–2 inches of snow, mainly across Davenport, Moline, and nearby interstates I-80 and I-74.

Even minor accumulations could lead to slick roads and reduced visibility during evening travel. Drivers are urged to slow down, especially on bridges and shaded stretches prone to “flash freezing” as temperatures fall back into the teens.

Sunday remains cold but brighter, with highs near 21°F before another frigid night settles in. Looking ahead, models suggest a renewed Arctic surge around December 11–17, potentially bringing heavier snow across the Upper Midwest — just as early holiday travel begins to ramp up.

Bundle up, limit time outdoors, and check on neighbors or pets during these dangerously cold mornings. Keep your vehicle stocked with blankets and emergency supplies — even short trips could become risky in these conditions.

Five-Day Outlook (Quad Cities IA–IL):

  • Thursday: Sunny, high 14°F, low 6°F, wind chills –15°F.

  • Sunday: Mostly sunny, high 21°F, low 2°F.
  • Monday: Partly sunny, high 25°F, still cold early.
