Quad Cities, IA/IL – Residents in the Quad Cities area should prepare for severe weather conditions today. The National Weather Service has issued a warning for scattered showers and thunderstorms that are expected to develop this afternoon and continue into the evening. These storms bring the potential for quarter-sized hail, damaging winds, and brief tornadoes.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), storms are moving east-northeast across the region, and severe weather hazards will be possible throughout the day. Gusty winds up to 40 mph and frequent lightning are also anticipated. The NWS emphasizes the importance of staying alert to rapidly changing weather conditions and having multiple ways to receive weather warnings.

This morning, radar updates indicated scattered showers and storms, which are expected to persist but remain below severe limits early on. However, conditions are likely to escalate in the afternoon and evening. Minor flooding in areas that received over 2 inches of rain in the past 24 hours is also a concern, along with soaking downpours that could impact roads and parking lots.
