Quad Cities, Iowa – Strong thunderstorms are expected to roll through eastern Iowa and parts of western Illinois late Sunday, bringing the threat of damaging winds and localized flooding between 5 and 11 p.m.

According to the National Weather Service Quad Cities office, a slight risk (Level 2 of 5) is in effect for northeast Iowa, including Dubuque and Waterloo, with a marginal risk (Level 1) extending into the Quad Cities, Peoria, and parts of northern Missouri. Storms are expected to develop with 60–80% coverage late in the afternoon, then taper off after sunset.

The primary hazards include wind gusts over 60 mph, heavy downpours, and isolated flash flooding—especially in urban and low-lying areas. Lightning will also be a concern for those outdoors during peak evening hours. Areas along I-80 and U.S. Highway 61 may see reduced visibility and hazardous driving conditions.

Residents should secure outdoor items, have multiple ways to receive weather alerts, and avoid flood-prone roads. Campers and outdoor event planners are urged to prepare for rapidly changing conditions.

Storm coverage is expected to decrease after sunset, but additional updates are likely if the system strengthens.
