Evansville, Indiana – Communities across southern Indiana, central Illinois, and western Kentucky face a dangerous evening as supercell storms bring the risk of intense tornadoes, giant hail, and wind gusts topping 80 mph.
According to the National Weather Service’s Storm Prediction Center, a Tornado Watch remains in effect until 10 p.m. CDT Friday for parts of central and southern Illinois, Indiana, and Kentucky, along with far southeastern Missouri. Several tornadoes are possible, including a few that could be strong or long-tracked. Hail up to 2.5 inches in diameter and damaging straight-line winds are also likely.
Cities including Bloomington, Evansville, Paducah, and Terre Haute are within the threat zone. Major roadways such as I-64, I-70, and I-69 may experience sudden closures due to downed trees or debris. Power outages and communication disruptions are possible if storms intensify.
Residents should charge devices, review shelter plans, and stay tuned to local alerts. Those in mobile homes or vulnerable structures should be ready to move to sturdy shelter immediately.
This system is expected to move quickly eastward through the evening. Additional warnings may be issued as storms evolve. Stay weather-aware through 10 p.m. and prepare to act quickly if a warning is issued.
