Evansville, IN – Residents across southern Illinois, western Kentucky, and southwest Indiana face a heightened tornado threat early Tuesday, with severe storms moving across the region until at least 8 a.m. CDT.

According to the National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center, Tornado Watch No. 301 is now in effect, warning of the potential for brief tornadoes, damaging wind gusts up to 70 mph, and isolated hail near 1 inch in diameter. The watch spans from north of Evansville to southeast of Paducah, covering much of the tri-state area.

Bands of strong thunderstorms are tracking along a warm front and will continue eastward through sunrise. Cities like Carbondale, Owensboro, and Vincennes should prepare for sudden severe conditions. Wind damage to trees and power lines is possible, and residents are urged to secure outdoor objects and monitor NOAA Weather Radio or local alerts.

Drivers are advised to avoid travel if storms intensify, as visibility may rapidly deteriorate and winds could make roads hazardous. Charge mobile devices overnight and ensure you have a safe shelter ready in case tornado warnings are issued.

This watch remains active until 8 a.m. CDT. Additional warnings may follow as the storm system continues eastward.
