Kankakee, Illinois – Illinois drivers are getting slammed at the pump, with gas prices surging 90 cents in just 30 days as global oil markets react sharply to escalating conflict involving Iran.

According to Triple-A, the statewide average for regular unleaded now stands at $4.29 per gallon as of Monday, up nearly 10 cents in just the past week. Analysts say rising crude prices tied to geopolitical instability in the Middle East are fueling the rapid increase.

The spike is hitting northeastern Illinois hard. In Kankakee County, drivers are paying an average of $4.17 per gallon, 91 cents higher than a month ago. Prices are also elevated in surrounding areas, including $4.02 in Iroquois County, $4.20 in Grundy County, and $4.28 in Will County.

Drivers crossing into Indiana are finding slightly lower prices, though increases continue there as well. Gas averages $3.84 in Newton County, $4.01 in Benton County, and $3.99 in Jasper County. Across Indiana, the statewide average is $3.90 per gallon.

Motorists should expect continued volatility and consider limiting unnecessary travel, comparing station prices, and improving fuel efficiency where possible. Analysts warn additional increases remain likely if global tensions continue to disrupt oil supply, with further price jumps possible in the coming days.
