South Holland, IL – A Michigan man was pronounced dead Friday night after suffering a gunshot wound on Interstate 294 in South Holland, according to officials.

The Lake County Coroner’s Office reported that 61-year-old Kevin M. O’Shea, a resident of Howell, Michigan, was transported to Munster Community Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. Authorities said O’Shea sustained a fatal gunshot wound, though the manner of death remains pending.

According to the Lake County Coroner’s Office, the shooting occurred near mile marker 1.5 on the southbound side of I-294 around 10:11 p.m. Emergency personnel from Illinois State Police, South Holland EMS and the South Holland Fire Department responded to the scene. O’Shea was pronounced deceased at 9:54 p.m. by an emergency room physician.

A forensic autopsy is scheduled for Monday, September 1, at the Lake County Forensic Center in Crown Point, Indiana. Results are expected to determine further details surrounding the cause and manner of death.
