Chicago, IL – A hydrologic outlook from the National Weather Service warns of increasing risks for river ice formation and potential ice jams starting Friday, affecting the Rock, Fox, Des Plaines, and Kankakee rivers.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Chicago, very cold temperatures expected Thursday through Friday and early next week will promote rapid ice formation on rivers. This could lead to isolated ice jams, potentially causing sudden water level fluctuations.
Residents near affected rivers are advised to stay informed as conditions develop. The NWS will provide updates Thursday afternoon.
