Chicago, Illinois – Illinois residents should brace for intense heat and humidity starting this weekend, with “feels like” temperatures surpassing 100°F for several consecutive days, especially across central and northern parts of the state.

According to the National Weather Service in Chicago, heat index values will begin rising Saturday, June 22, and may linger into midweek. Affected areas include much of northern Illinois and eastern Iowa, where heat risk levels have been rated 3 to 4 (Major to Extreme) on the Weather Prediction Center’s 5-point scale. Overnight lows in the 70s will offer little relief, increasing the risk of heat-related illnesses.

Chicago could see daily highs in the upper 80s to low 90s with rising dew points, particularly by Sunday, when the high may approach 90°F. Midweek storms may provide brief relief, but heat will likely return quickly. Residents in areas like Peoria, Springfield, and Rockford should also prepare for several dangerously hot days.

To stay safe, limit outdoor activities during peak heat, check on vulnerable neighbors, and ensure access to cooling centers. Consider adjusting plans or work schedules to avoid prolonged heat exposure.

Heat warnings may be upgraded later this week. Stay tuned for updates as the weekend approaches.
