Chicago, IL – A man wanted in North Dakota on charges involving the alleged corruption of a minor was arrested earlier this month in Cook County, authorities confirmed.
According to the Cook County Sheriff’s Office, 49-year-old Hugo Osbaldo Gomez was taken into custody August 10 after investigators located him living with a family friend in the 1600 block of North 33rd Avenue in Melrose Park. Gomez was wanted on a warrant from Cass County, North Dakota, for four counts of gross sexual imposition and corruption of a minor.
Sheriff’s officials said surveillance teams observed Gomez leaving the residence with a woman before entering a parked vehicle. Officers trailed the car until conducting a traffic stop near 500 North Mannheim Road in Hillside. Gomez, identified as a passenger in the vehicle, was arrested without incident.
Authorities reported that Gomez was held at the Cook County Jail following his arrest. He was later extradited to North Dakota to face the outstanding charges.
The U.S. Marshals Great Lakes Regional Task Force assisted in the operation, which officials said was carried out by the Cook County Sheriff’s Fugitive Apprehension Unit.
