Springfield, IL – A freeze warning has been issued for several central Illinois counties, with temperatures expected to dip below freezing overnight, potentially impacting agriculture and outdoor infrastructure.
According to the National Weather Service, the freeze warning will be in effect from 11 p.m. tonight until 8 a.m. Wednesday, April 9. Sub-freezing temperatures, as low as 30°F, are forecasted for Clark, Edgar, Vermilion, Crawford, Jasper, Lawrence, and Richland counties. Cities including Marshall, Paris, Robinson, Olney, Lawrenceville, Danville, and Newton are expected to experience these conditions.
The freeze could have significant consequences for crops and other sensitive vegetation, as well as unprotected outdoor plumbing. Local authorities are urging residents to take precautions, such as covering plants and draining outdoor water systems.
While spring has arrived, these unseasonably cold temperatures are a reminder that late-season freezes can still occur in the region. Residents are advised to stay vigilant and monitor the weather throughout the night to avoid damage.
