Springfield, IL — A freeze warning has been issued for portions of central and west-central Illinois, taking effect from 1 AM until 9 AM Wednesday. Temperatures are expected to drop as low as 30 degrees, posing a threat to sensitive vegetation and unprotected plumbing.

The warning covers areas west of a Bloomington to Taylorville line, including cities such as Peoria, Springfield, and Decatur. According to the National Weather Service, frost and freeze conditions could kill unprotected plants and possibly damage outdoor pipes if not properly insulated.

Residents are advised to take precautions to protect tender vegetation. Urban areas may experience slightly higher temperatures but will still likely see frost. The service suggests wrapping outdoor plumbing or allowing it to drip slowly overnight.

Preparedness actions should be taken immediately to minimize any damage. The freeze warning will be lifted after 9 AM Wednesday when temperatures are expected to rise.
