Springfield, IL – Central Illinois residents will face another stretch of hot and dry weather this week, with temperatures in the 90s holding through Thursday before rain chances arrive by Friday.

According to the US National Weather Service Central Illinois, a slow-moving system is expected to approach from the west Friday and linger into the weekend. That shift will gradually cool conditions and bring a 20% to 40% chance of rain between Friday and Sunday.

Daytime highs are forecast to remain near 90 through midweek, with Tuesday reaching between 89 and 92 degrees and Wednesday climbing into the low 90s. Thursday is expected to be the hottest day, with highs near 94. Overnight lows will stay mild, mostly in the 60s.

Relief may arrive Friday as rain chances increase to around 30%. Highs will drop slightly, hovering in the upper 80s to low 90s. By Saturday, cooler temperatures in the low 80s are expected, along with continued rain chances.

The extended heat and lack of precipitation could impact outdoor activities, crops, and air quality in parts of central Illinois. Officials encourage residents to stay hydrated and take precautions against heat-related illnesses during the week.
