Braidwood, IL – Motorists in several Illinois counties are being urged to exercise caution as dense fog blankets the area. The National Weather Service (NWS) issued a dense fog advisory through 8 a.m. Wednesday, with visibility reduced to less than a quarter-mile. Drivers are advised to slow down and use low-beam headlights, particularly when traveling through river valleys, farmland, and dips in the road.

According to NWS Chicago, the fog is expected to dissipate about an hour after sunrise. The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office emphasized hazardous conditions in McHenry, Lake, DeKalb, and Kane counties. Motorists may face rapidly changing visibility, especially during morning commutes. Drivers should leave extra distance between vehicles and avoid using high beams, which can reflect off the fog and further reduce visibility.

These foggy conditions are common during late summer and fall. Travelers should check local weather updates before heading out, ensuring they are prepared for shifting driving conditions on Illinois roadways.
