Chicago, Illinois – Minor flooding is affecting parts of central and east-central Illinois Tuesday evening, with water covering streets and rising in local creeks following heavy rain earlier in the day.
According to the National Weather Service in Chicago, a Flood Advisory remains in effect until 7:30 p.m. CDT for La Salle, Livingston, Ford, and Iroquois counties. Doppler radar estimates show up to 1.5 inches of rain fell earlier, and while the rain has mostly moved out, runoff continues to cause flooding.
In La Salle and Livingston counties, low-lying roads near Streator, Marseilles, and Tonica have reported standing water. In Ford and Iroquois counties, areas around Paxton, Gibson City, and Loda are seeing similar conditions, with more rain—up to 1 additional inch—possible through early evening.
Drivers are urged to avoid flooded streets and not attempt to cross water-covered roads. Residents in flood-prone areas should monitor nearby creeks and drainage systems.
While no major rivers are expected to overflow, localized street flooding and ponding on rural roads could continue through sunset. Additional advisories may be issued if rain persists or drainage systems back up.
