Hamilton, IL – A flash flood warning is in effect for Keokuk, IA, Hamilton, IL, and Warsaw, IL until 1:45 PM CDT Thursday.

According to the US National Weather Service Quad Cities Iowa/Illinois, residents in the affected areas are urged to move immediately to higher ground. The warning, issued at 12:15 PM CDT, highlights the potential for dangerous flash flooding due to heavy rainfall.

Safety officials emphasize the importance of avoiding walking or driving through floodwaters. “Turn around, don’t drown!” they advised, underscoring the hazards of attempting to traverse flooded roads.

Areas under the warning include Nauvoo, Elvaston, Argyle, Summerville, Basco, and Charleston, affecting approximately 21,778 people, 16 schools, and one hospital. The heavy rainfall has already led to rapid rises in water levels, making certain roads impassable.
