Channahon, IL – A residential structure fire broke out early Wednesday morning on the southwest side of Channahon, prompting a swift response from local fire crews and emergency personnel.

According to a press release from the Channahon Fire Protection District, crews were dispatched at approximately 6:02 a.m. to a reported fire at 23820 S Frontage Road W. Upon arrival, firefighters encountered active flames on the exterior of the home’s second floor and confirmed the residence was occupied. Crews helped evacuate residents and their pets safely.

Firefighters advanced hoselines to the second floor, forcing entry through walls and ceilings in the southwest corner to attack the blaze. The fire was found in the attic space and fully extinguished by 6:31 a.m. Though flames were confined to the second floor, the home sustained additional water and smoke damage.

Fire officials conducted full-floor searches for any fire extension, but found no further issues. No injuries to residents or firefighters were reported.

The Channahon Police Department and Will County Sheriff’s Office managed traffic control in the area during the incident, while utility companies NiCor and ComEd assisted on site. Channahon Community Support Services provided aid for the affected residents and their pets.

Investigators believe the fire was accidental, with recent severe weather potentially contributing to the blaze. The MABAS Division Fire Investigation Team is collaborating with Channahon fire officials on the ongoing investigation.

Crews cleared the scene around 8:39 a.m. after 1-800-Board Up secured the residence from additional damage.
