Aurora, IL – Residents in Aurora experienced two separate residential fires this week, with crews responding to a structure fire on Karen Court on Wednesday evening and a chimney fire on Lawndale Avenue early Thursday. No injuries were reported, but one home was deemed uninhabitable due to smoke and fire damage.

According to the Aurora Fire Department, the first incident occurred around 7:34 p.m. on November 27 in the 1500 block of Karen Court. Twenty-six personnel, including engine companies, truck companies, medic units, and chief officers, arrived to find visible flames along the exterior of a two-story single-family home. Heavy smoke filled the residence as crews advanced an initial hose line to stop the fire from spreading inside.

Backup firefighters deployed a second hose line to attack interior flames. Crews searched the residence and confirmed no one was inside before ventilating and overhauling the structure. Utilities were secured by ComEd and Nicor. Victim Services assisted the displaced family, and the home was ruled uninhabitable.

In a separate incident the following night, firefighters were dispatched to a chimney fire in the 200 block of Lawndale Avenue. Crews located a small fire in the chimney chase and contained it before it extended into the attic or surrounding structure. The home was ventilated, and no injuries were reported.

“This time of year is one of the busiest for house fires, as colder weather sets in and people begin using heating equipment again,” Deputy Chief Kevin Nickel said. He urged residents to have fireplaces inspected and cleaned and to ensure flues are clear before lighting fires.

Both incidents remain under investigation by Aurora Fire Department fire investigators.
