Chicago, IL – A Chicago man was arrested within 12 hours following a weekend expressway shooting on Interstate 94, Illinois State Police announced Monday.
According to Illinois State Police, 33-year-old Freddie Jones was taken into custody after an investigation into a shooting that occurred Saturday on I-94 northbound near 71st Street. The vehicle targeted in the incident sustained damage, but the driver and passenger were not injured.
The ISP Division of Criminal Investigation Zone 1 identified Jones as the alleged suspect and arrested him later that day. On Sunday, the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office filed two counts of Attempted Murder, classified as Class X felonies, and two counts of Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm, classified as Class 1 felonies.
Authorities said the swift identification and arrest followed a coordinated investigation between state police and the Chicago Police Department.
Jones remains in custody as of Tuesday. No additional information about the incident or the circumstances leading to the arrest has been released.
All charges remain allegations. Jones is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
