Normal, IL – A global automotive supplier is set to bring new jobs and investment to Central Illinois as Adient, a leader in automotive seating, will establish a facility in Normal to assemble seat components for Rivian vehicles. The announcement marks another milestone in Illinois’ push to lead the nation in electric vehicle and advanced manufacturing sectors.
According to a statement Monday from the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO), Adient plans a capital investment of over $8 million, supported by the state’s Reimagining Energy and Vehicles in Illinois (REV Illinois) program. The new operation will create 75 full-time jobs and repurpose an existing 85,000-square-foot warehouse adjacent to Rivian’s plant south of College Avenue.
“With more EV suppliers calling Illinois home due to our unmatched workforce, infrastructure and competitive incentives, we are growing our reputation as a global leader in the electric vehicle sector,” said Gov. JB Pritzker in a release. DCEO Director Kristin Richards emphasized that Illinois “continues to lead the way in electric vehicles and advanced manufacturing,” with the state’s REV program supporting companies creating “the clean energy jobs of the future.”
Adient’s facility will manufacture complete front and rear seat assemblies for Rivian, which has also made significant investments in Normal. In 2023, Rivian announced a $1.5 billion expansion to build its anticipated R2 model, adding more than 550 full-time jobs. Earlier this year, Rivian and the State announced a further $120 million investment for a new supplier park and nearly 100 additional jobs.
Local officials celebrated the news, calling Adient’s decision a key development for the region’s economy and its growing role in the EV supply chain. “All of Central Illinois will benefit from the creation of jobs, a stronger economy and a foundation for future growth,” said Normal Mayor Chris Koos.
