According to the US Geological Survey, the earthquake occurred at 2:53 a.m. CST, with its epicenter located approximately 2 km northwest of Somonauk. The quake had a depth of 9.8 km. Local authorities, including the Yorkville Police Department, acknowledged the event, noting that residents reported feeling their homes shake.

Although the quake was relatively minor, it was felt by many residents across the region. The USGS “Did You Feel It?” service received 93 responses from individuals who experienced the tremor. Despite the widespread sensation, there have been no reports of significant damage or injuries.
