Elmhurst, IL – A suspect in a domestic battery case was located and taken into custody early Thursday after being found hiding in the woods, thanks to a police drone deployed following a foot chase along Interstate 290.

According to the Elmhurst Police Department, the pursuit began around 10:30 p.m. Wednesday when the suspect fled from a vehicle that had been stopped by an outside law enforcement agency. He was last seen running from the west shoulder of I-290 toward South Street, prompting a search and community-wide alert.

The man, described by police as a Black male wearing a white or tan shirt, evaded officers for nearly two hours. A drone unit was deployed shortly before midnight to scan the wooded area near the Illinois Prairie Path and Fair Avenue. At approximately 12:10 a.m., officers located the suspect and took him into custody without incident.

Authorities have not released the suspect’s identity or further details about the original domestic battery case. The man is believed to have been wanted by another law enforcement agency prior to the pursuit.

Elmhurst Police credited the drone technology with helping to safely resolve the incident and praised the quick response from both local and assisting agencies.
