Homewood, IL – A daycare worker faces charges after allegedly placing a 4-year-old child in freezing conditions and later inside a trash can as punishment.
The Homewood Police Department reported that the incident occurred on January 13 at a daycare in the 18700 block of Dixie Highway. Investigators allege that Anna Petrou, 58, of Homewood, put the child in an outdoor alley for approximately 20 seconds while the temperature was 19 degrees. Afterward, she reportedly brought the child inside and placed them in an empty garbage can as a form of discipline.
The incident was reported to authorities later that evening. On January 23, Petrou was charged with one misdemeanor count of endangering the life of a child. She has been released pending an upcoming court date.
