Oak Brook, IL – The Illinois Third District Appellate Court has upheld the conviction and 88-year sentence of Julius Ramsey for a 2019 assault of a hotel employee at a Hyatt House in Oak Brook.
DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin announced the decision Friday, emphasizing its significance in delivering justice. Ramsey’s appeal claimed his attorney failed to justify why he did not testify, despite earlier plans to do so.
The assault occurred on September 9, 2019, when Ramsey approached a female employee during her shift, forced her into a vacant hotel room at gunpoint, and sexually assaulted her multiple times. Ramsey also threatened her life before she managed to escape and report the crime to authorities.
A jury convicted Ramsey in 2021 of several charges, including aggravated criminal sexual assault and aggravated kidnapping. The Appellate Court ruled that Ramsey received fair representation, stating his attorney provided a “rigorous defense” and properly addressed his choice not to testify.
