Elmhurst, IL – The Elmhurst Police Department will host a community Drug Take-Back event on Saturday, October 25, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the police station parking lot, located at 125 E. 1st Street. The event offers a safe and anonymous way for residents to dispose of unused or expired prescription medications.
According to the City of Elmhurst, the drive-thru event allows residents to drop off medications without leaving their vehicles. The initiative is part of a nationwide effort to prevent prescription drug misuse and environmental contamination caused by improper disposal.
Authorities say unused medications can pose serious risks, including accidental poisoning, overdose, and abuse, if not properly discarded. Additionally, flushing medications or throwing them into household trash can lead to water contamination and environmental hazards.
Residents are encouraged to check their medicine cabinets and bring any old or unused prescriptions to Saturday’s event. The service is free, and no identification is required.
For more information about the event, residents can contact the Elmhurst Police Department at 630-530-3050.
