Champaign, IL — A chilly start to the week is expected across Central Illinois as light snow moves through the area Monday morning. Motorists on I-72 and surrounding roadways should prepare for reduced visibility and slick conditions during the morning commute.

According to the National Weather Service, light snow will begin early Monday, with accumulations under half an inch. Temperatures will range from 27 to 29 degrees, and winds from the northwest will keep wind chills in the teens. Drivers are encouraged to exercise caution, particularly on untreated roads.

By Tuesday, skies will clear, bringing sunny conditions and a slight temperature increase to 31 degrees. Winds shifting to the south will signal a brief warmup midweek, with highs climbing to a balmy 45 degrees on Wednesday. However, breezy conditions may make it feel colder.

After Wednesday’s reprieve, temperatures will plunge once again. Thursday is expected to see highs in the mid-20s, with lows dropping to the teens overnight. By Friday, highs will hover near freezing, continuing the pattern of below-normal temperatures.

Residents are advised to dress in layers and monitor weather updates for any changes. While snowfall Monday is minimal, icy patches could linger into the evening, posing a risk for travelers.
