Quad Cities, IA/IL – Another dangerously cold night is expected across west central Illinois, with wind chills plunging well below zero and hazardous conditions lingering into early Monday.

According to the National Weather Service Quad Cities, Cold Weather Advisories remain in effect for west central Illinois, with wind chill values dropping to between -10 and -20 degrees after sunset Sunday night. These conditions are expected to persist through very early Monday morning, with the advisory continuing until 6 a.m. Monday.

Forecasters warn that many roads will remain slick, as extremely cold temperatures reduce the effectiveness of salt and other road treatments. Even areas that received minimal snowfall may experience icy patches, especially on bridges, overpasses, and untreated secondary roads.

The advisory area includes communities such as Galesburg, Macomb, Monmouth, and surrounding counties, where overnight travel could be especially hazardous. Prolonged exposure to these temperatures can lead to frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 30 minutes.

Residents are urged to limit time outdoors, dress in multiple warm layers, and ensure pets are brought indoors overnight. Those commuting early Monday morning should allow extra travel time and use caution on icy roads.

Temperatures are expected to slowly moderate later Monday, but lingering cold could keep conditions hazardous during the morning hours.

Officials encourage residents to monitor local forecasts and advisories as Arctic air continues to impact the region.
