Kankakee, IL – The family of Ja’Mir Frazier, a six-year-old boy who drowned in the Kankakee River on Tuesday afternoon, has set up a GoFundMe page to help cover funeral expenses. As of this morning, over $18,000 has been raised toward a $20,000 goal. The funds will help provide a proper burial for Ja’Mir.
According to the family, Ja’Mir died after falling into the river from the Beckman Park boat launch. Kankakee City Police and Fire Department personnel responded to the scene Tuesday afternoon. Rescue crews from surrounding communities were called in to assist in the search. The boy’s body was recovered just before 5:30 p.m., approximately 25 feet from the shore in 10 feet of water.
The community has rallied around the Frazier family, contributing generously to the GoFundMe campaign. The family expressed gratitude for the support and noted that any excess funds would be used to help raise awareness about water safety and to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
Ja’Mir’s family hopes to raise enough money to not only cover funeral expenses but also to create a lasting legacy in his memory, promoting water safety education and drowning prevention programs in the Kankakee area.
