Illinois Boy Dies After Landlord Reportedly Attacks Woman, Child in Plainfield Township

PLAINFIELD TOWNSHIP, Ill. – On Saturday morning around 11:38 AM, a chilling incident sent shockwaves through Unincorporated Plainfield Township. 

According to reports from the Will County Sheriff’s Office, officers arrived at a residence near S. Lincoln Highway and Lily Cache Road to find a scene of violence: a woman and a child held up inside a bathroom after both had been reportedly attacked by their landlord. 

The landlord, later identified as Joseph M. Czuba, 71, of Plainfield, was found injured outside the home. Inside, officers discovered the 32-year-old woman with multiple stab wounds and an eight-year-old boy in grave condition. Despite medical intervention, the young boy tragically died at a local hospital.

Czuba was treated and detained in custody, yet charges have not been announced, as the investigation continues as the community grapples with this heartbreaking loss.
