Chicago, IL – Baby name trends are making headlines this week in Illinois and nationwide, as the Social Security Administration unveiled its list of the most popular names of 2024 just in time for Mother’s Day.

According to the Social Security Administration, the top boy and girl names that increased the most in popularity this year were “Truce” and “Ailany.” Truce, meaning “peace,” saw a remarkable rise, jumping 11,118 spots to enter the top 1,000 for the first time at number 991 overall. For girls, Ailany, which translates to “chief,” also surged to the top of the list of fastest-growing names.

The complete top five fastest-rising boys’ names for 2024 include Truce, Colsen, Bryer, Halo, and Azaiah. For girls, Ailany is followed by Aylani, Marjorie, Scottie, and Analeia.

Meanwhile, the SSA also confirmed that Liam and Olivia remain America’s most popular baby names overall for the sixth consecutive year. Rounding out the top five for boys are Noah, Oliver, Theodore, and James. For girls, Emma, Amelia, Charlotte, and Mia followed Olivia.

Each year, the SSA uses birth registration data to track naming trends across the United States, making the annual release a snapshot of cultural and social influences in family life. The data is gathered as part of the process when parents apply for a child’s Social Security number, often during the birth registration process in hospitals.

Parents and name enthusiasts can explore the full rankings at ssa.gov/oact/babynames, which include name trends dating back to 1880.
