Chicago, Illinois – April wrapped up warmer and drier than usual across northern Illinois, with both Chicago and Rockford recording above-average temperatures and below-normal precipitation, according to the National Weather Service.

Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport reported an average temperature of 50.8°F — 1.1° above normal — and just 2.66 inches of rain, which is 1.09 inches below the monthly average. Rockford saw a similar trend, averaging 49.9°F and receiving only 2.16 inches of precipitation, 1.59 inches below normal. Neither city reported any measurable snowfall, with both finishing the month 1.3 inches below average for April snow.

Dry conditions were widespread across the region, as shown in precipitation maps from the High Plains and Midwestern Regional Climate Centers. Much of northeastern Illinois received less than 75% of normal rainfall for the month, contributing to early-season soil dryness that could affect agriculture if trends continue.

While no extreme weather events were recorded, residents should remain alert as spring weather patterns shift heading into May. More typical rain chances and fluctuating temperatures are expected in the coming weeks, and the National Weather Service advises monitoring local updates for any developing weather advisories.

Further updates will follow as May storms or temperature swings approach.
