Chicago, IL – Clear skies reveal widespread snow cover across the Midwest, with some areas seeing little or no snow. A satellite image from the GOES-East Day Snow-Fog RGB shows snow as red, clouds as white, and areas with minimal snow as tan.

The largest snow-free stretch runs from the Illinois-Missouri border across the Kankakee River Valley into western Indiana. This area will expand as late February sun and temperatures near 32 degrees melt more snow.

According to the National Weather Service, temperatures will approach 40 degrees today. While still below normal for this time of year, the sunny skies and moderate winds will make for a more comfortable day outdoors.

With stronger sunlight and above-freezing conditions, additional melting is expected through the weekend. Residents should prepare for slushy roads and potential refreezing overnight.
