Idyllwild, California – Strong northeast winds are continuing to batter the Riverside County Mountains, creating hazardous driving conditions and the risk of downed trees through early Sunday afternoon, especially near Idyllwild and Pine Cove.
According to the National Weather Service in San Diego, a Wind Advisory remains in effect until 1 p.m. PST Sunday for the Riverside County Mountains. Sustained northeast winds of 20 to 30 mph are expected, with gusts reaching up to 55 mph, strongest along exposed ridges and passes. Travel along State Route 74, State Route 243, and nearby mountain roads may become difficult, particularly for high-profile vehicles.
Farther west, a separate Wind Advisory is also in effect through 1 p.m. Sunday for inland Orange County, including Anaheim, Santa Ana, Irvine, Fullerton, Mission Viejo, and Garden Grove. Winds in these areas will range from 15 to 25 mph, with gusts between 35 and 50 mph, strongest near the foothills of the Santa Ana Mountains. Gusty crosswinds may affect travel on Interstate 5, State Route 91, and State Route 241, especially during the late morning hours.
Unsecured outdoor objects could be blown around, and tree limbs may come down, leading to isolated power outages in both regions. The strongest winds are expected through Sunday morning before gradually easing midday.
Residents are urged to secure loose items, use caution while driving, and avoid unnecessary mountain travel until winds subside. Additional wind advisories could be extended if gusts remain stronger or persist longer than expected.
