Boise, ID – A winter weather system will bring significant snowfall to the Idaho mountains through Saturday, with Winter Weather Advisories and Winter Storm Warnings now in effect for much of the region, according to the National Weather Service in Boise.
Forecasters say elevations above 5,000 feet could see up to 6 inches of snow, with higher totals possible in the West Central and Boise Mountains. The heaviest snow is expected Friday night through Saturday afternoon, creating difficult travel conditions across mountain passes such as Banner Summit, Tamarack, and Brundage.
Meanwhile, lower valley locations — including Boise, Nampa, and Mountain Home — will likely experience rain or a light wintry mix Thursday night into Friday morning. Temperatures will remain near freezing early, increasing the potential for slippery roads during the morning commute before conditions gradually warm.
The NWS Boise office urges travelers heading into the mountains to check road reports, carry winter gear, and be prepared for rapidly changing weather. Snowfall will taper off late Saturday, followed by scattered snow showers Sunday as temperatures stay below normal into early next week.
