Pocatello, ID – A winter weather advisory remains in effect for eastern Idaho as heavy snow and strong winds continue to impact the region. The advisory, issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) in Pocatello, is set to expire at 8 p.m. MDT Sunday, affecting several mountainous areas and valleys.
According to the NWS, snow accumulations between 2 and 9 inches are expected, with the highest totals in the Bear River Range, which could see over 9 inches in some locations. Winds are gusting between 40 and 50 mph, creating blowing and drifting snow, which will significantly reduce visibility on roadways, particularly along HWY 26 near Antelope Flats and HWY 33 in the Botts area.
The advisory covers the Beaverhead-Lemhi Highlands, Teton Valley, Caribou Range, Southern Hills/Albion Mountains, Big Hole Mountains, and Wood River Foothills. Areas including Hailey, Victor, Driggs, and Albion are expected to experience difficult travel conditions due to slippery roads and low visibility.
The NWS urges motorists to slow down and use caution while traveling. Those planning to drive should check Idaho road conditions at 511.idaho.gov before heading out. The winter storm is expected to taper off by Sunday evening, but residual travel impacts may persist into Monday morning.
