Pocatello, ID – The National Weather Service Pocatello has extended Winter Weather Advisories for large portions of central and eastern Idaho, warning of accumulating snow and difficult travel through Monday afternoon.
The first advisory — covering the Frank Church Wilderness, Sawtooth/Stanley Basin, Sun Valley Region, and Big Lost Highlands/Copper Basin — remains in effect until midnight Sunday night. Snow totals are expected to reach 6–12 inches above 7,000 feet, with 1–4 inches in lower elevations such as Stanley and Ketchum. Winds could gust up to 35 mph across exposed ridges.
A second advisory, effective from 3 AM Sunday through 3 PM Monday, includes the Bear River Range, Caribou Range, Big Hole Mountains, and Centennial Mountains near Island Park. Forecasters expect 3–6 inches of snow in general, with up to 12 inches above 7,000 feet and gusts near 40 mph.
The NWS warns that slippery road conditions are likely, particularly on mountain passes, with reduced visibility possible during heavier bursts. Drivers are urged to slow down and use caution, especially during the Monday morning commute.
