Idaho, ID – A powerful winter storm is set to bring heavy snowfall to Idaho’s mountainous regions this weekend. Snowfall totals could reach 14 inches, with lower elevations expecting 5 to 10 inches.
According to the National Weather Service, the storm will begin early Saturday and persist through early Sunday morning for areas like Ketchum, Sun Valley, and the Big Lost Highlands. Above 7,000 feet, snowfall totals may surpass 14 inches. Winds up to 35 mph are predicted, worsening travel conditions.
In the Teton Valley, Caribou Range, and Island Park areas, snowfall is expected to start mid-Saturday and continue through Sunday evening. Similar totals and hazardous driving conditions are anticipated. Residents and travelers are urged to avoid unnecessary travel, as roads may become impassable. Those traveling should pack emergency supplies, including flashlights, food, and water, and stay updated via Idaho’s 511 road condition hotline.
