Boise, Idaho – Strong wind gusts, lightning, and a marginal risk of severe thunderstorms are expected to move into southern Idaho on Sunday, with the Snake River Plain—including Boise—potentially seeing outflow winds and blowing dust by late afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service in Boise, a storm system sweeping across southeast Oregon on Sunday could bring gusts as high as 65 mph into southwest Idaho, accompanied by dry lightning, brief downpours, and pockets of small hail. While the highest risk remains just west of the Idaho border, outflow winds could push east into the Treasure Valley by Sunday afternoon or evening.

Areas near Ontario, McCall, and Riggins could see the greatest storm concentration, with models showing a 60–80% chance of radar-detectable storm activity. Boise residents may experience reduced visibility from blowing dust and sudden wind shifts. Drivers should be prepared for rapidly changing conditions, especially on I-84 and Highway 55. Outdoor plans Sunday afternoon and evening may need to be postponed.

Winds are expected to calm by early Monday, but additional heat and isolated storm chances will linger into midweek.
