Idaho starts the day under a gray, low ceiling as light rain dampens streets across Boise and the Treasure Valley. Pavement looks dark and glossy, and drivers along I-84 are already kicking up mist during the morning commute. Keep headlights on and allow extra space.

According to the National Weather Service in Boise, rain chances hold near 50 percent today with highs reaching 49 degrees. Winds stay light, shifting northwest this afternoon. Showers taper later, but patchy fog could form late tonight as temperatures dip to around 33 degrees. That setup may lead to isolated slick spots by daybreak where moisture lingers.

Thursday trends drier and brighter. Morning fog gives way to partial sunshine with highs near 49. Friday delivers a mild February bump, climbing to 51 degrees under mostly sunny skies. Valentine’s Weekend begins quiet, but clouds increase Saturday with a 20 percent chance of rain and highs near 53.

Sunday keeps a slight rain chance with highs in the lower 50s. Early next week, a more unsettled pattern develops. A 40 to 50 percent chance of rain and snow arrives by Washington’s Birthday into Tuesday. With lows in the mid-30s and highs near 50, any mix would be light, yet brief slushy patches cannot be ruled out during cooler periods.

Longer-range signals point to above-average temperatures building late next week. That could mean more rain than snow as milder air settles in across southern Idaho.

For now, watch for wet roads today and possible fog tonight. Are you seeing ponding or reduced visibility in your neighborhood?
