BOISE, Idaho – A soggy Columbus Day will give way to improving skies and a mild fall warm-up as southern Idaho dries out through midweek. Light showers and patchy drizzle are expected to linger into Monday morning before sunshine gradually takes over by Tuesday.

According to the National Weather Service in Boise, a weak disturbance will cross the region early Monday, bringing light rain to the Treasure Valley and areas along I-84. Drier air moves in Monday night, setting the stage for sunny skies and warmer afternoons through Thursday. Drivers along I-84 between Nampa and Mountain Home should watch for slick spots early Monday, especially before dawn when light rain mixes with road oil.

By Tuesday, highs will climb into the mid-60s across Boise, Meridian, and Caldwell — a welcome break after the cool and cloudy holiday. Winds will ease as high pressure builds, improving conditions for school drop-offs, outdoor work, and local fall events. Gardeners should still monitor for possible patchy frost in rural valleys by late week as overnight lows dip into the low 40s.

The drier stretch will make for ideal conditions at area pumpkin patches, leaf-peeping trails, and Boise River walks through next weekend. No major storms are expected before late Friday, when another round of Pacific moisture could approach the Oregon border. Residents are advised to check updated weather alerts midweek as that system develops.
