Boise, ID – A significant weather system is forecast to impact Idaho early next week, bringing heavy rain to the central mountains and snow to higher elevations.
According to the National Weather Service in Boise, confidence is growing in a very wet period beginning late Monday, Sept. 29, and lasting through Wednesday, Oct. 1. Forecasters say there is a 45% chance of exceeding 1 inch of precipitation across central Idaho.
The heaviest rainfall is expected over the Boise and Sawtooth mountain ranges, with storm totals potentially higher than typical autumn systems. Snow levels are forecast near 8,000 feet, meaning higher peaks could see early-season snowfall.
Weather officials warned that impacts are possible near recent wildfire burn scars, where heavy rainfall could trigger flash flooding or debris flows. Communities in valleys such as McCall, Mountain Home, Twin Falls, and Pocatello should also be prepared for heavy rain and possible travel delays.
The weather service advises residents and travelers to monitor forecasts closely as the storm approaches. Additional watches and warnings may be issued if conditions intensify.
