Pocatello, Idaho – Cold air settling into eastern Idaho could damage crops and gardens early Saturday morning, as a frost advisory takes effect from 2 to 8 a.m.
According to the National Weather Service in Pocatello, temperatures may dip below 37°F across the Shoshone/Lava Beds, Arco/Mud Lake Desert, and both the Upper and Lower Snake River Plains. While cities like Pocatello, Idaho Falls, and Rexburg are expected to stay slightly warmer, surrounding rural areas remain at risk.
Growers and gardeners in places like Mud Lake, Carey, and Craters of the Moon should take immediate action to protect sensitive plants. Uncovered vegetation may suffer damage or be killed if left exposed to early-morning frost.
This advisory is especially relevant for agricultural communities across eastern Idaho, where mid-May planting is already underway. Protective coverings, early evening watering, and temporary greenhouses are recommended overnight.
Temperatures are expected to rebound Saturday morning, but another advisory may be issued if conditions remain favorable for frost into Sunday. Residents should stay tuned to weather.gov/pocatello for the latest updates.
