BOISE, Idaho – A calm and bright Saturday will give way to a more unsettled pattern as Idaho rolls into the Columbus Day holiday. After a cool, clear start, fall sunshine will warm much of the Treasure Valley into the low 60s, ideal for leaf-peeping, pumpkin patch visits, and outdoor events. But forecasters say a shift is coming by late Sunday, bringing clouds and light showers to parts of southwest Idaho.

According to the National Weather Service in Boise, a weak Pacific front will slide across the region late Sunday into Monday night. While major rain totals aren’t expected, scattered showers could dampen travel along I-84 between Boise and Mountain Home during the holiday. Winds may gust near 20 mph Monday evening as cooler, moist air filters in from the northwest.

Drivers and event planners should stay alert for slick roads during the return trip late Monday and early Tuesday. Outdoor decorations, tents, and lightweight displays should be secured ahead of gusty conditions. Despite the passing showers, temperatures will stay mild through early next week before dipping again midweek.

According to forecasters, the pattern remains active through Thursday with periodic showers and breezy afternoons. Cooler mornings could bring patchy valley fog, especially in rural areas west of Caldwell. Residents are encouraged to check updated weather alerts if heading into the mountains, where isolated rain and light snow are possible above 6,000 feet.
