Boise, ID – Southwest Idaho remains under an air stagnation advisory until Friday morning, with poor air quality expected to persist. Residents are urged to take precautions, especially those with respiratory conditions.

According to the National Weather Service in Boise, the advisory will remain in effect until 11 a.m. Friday. This prolonged period of stagnant air is caused by light winds and an inversion near the surface, trapping pollutants in the lower atmosphere. Areas impacted include Boise, Nampa, and Caldwell, as well as portions of southeastern Oregon.

Health officials recommend minimizing outdoor activities during this time. Individuals with asthma, COPD, or other respiratory conditions should closely follow their physician’s advice.

Despite the poor air quality, the weather remains mostly clear and calm. Temperatures will reach a high of 43°F today, dropping to 24°F overnight. Friday will bring similar conditions with a high near 39°F and light winds increasing to 13 mph in the afternoon.

Looking ahead, sunny skies will continue through the weekend, with cooler temperatures. Saturday’s high will hover around 35°F, while Sunday is expected to top out at 34°F. Overnight lows will dip into the teens.

Motorists traveling on I-84 and local roadways should remain vigilant for reduced visibility caused by lingering haze. Conditions are expected to improve late Friday as winds strengthen, helping to disperse trapped pollutants.
