Spokane, Washington – Roads across north Idaho and the Palouse will remain slick through the Tuesday morning commute as overnight snow continues to fall across mountain passes and lower valleys.
According to the National Weather Service in Spokane, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 10 a.m. Tuesday for the Central Panhandle Mountains and parts of Lewis and southern Nez Perce counties. Snow totals of 2 to 5 inches are expected above 3,000 feet, including Lookout Pass, Fourth of July Pass and Wallace. Lower elevations may see 1 to 2 inches.
Farther west, advisories continue until 8 a.m. Tuesday for the Coeur d’Alene area, Idaho Palouse and Washington Palouse. Communities including Coeur d’Alene, Post Falls, Moscow and Pullman could pick up up to 1 inch of snow, enough to create slippery roads before sunrise.
Mountain highways and untreated city streets may remain snow-covered early Tuesday. Drivers should slow down, increase following distance and check Idaho 511 or Washington State Department of Transportation travel updates before leaving home.
Conditions are expected to gradually improve late Tuesday morning as snowfall tapers, but slick spots may linger through midday.
