Grangeville, Idaho – Wet snow is coating roads across north-central Idaho early Tuesday, creating slick stretches on Highway 11 and Greer Grade that could disrupt the morning commute through 10 a.m. PST.
According to the National Weather Service in Missoula, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect for the Northern Clearwater Mountains and the Orofino/Grangeville region until 10 a.m. PST Tuesday. Up to 3 inches of additional snow is expected, with moderate impacts already developing across higher elevations and exposed roadways.
Highway 11 from Pierce to Headquarters is seeing snow-covered pavement, while Greer Grade and Elk River report slushy buildup that may quickly refreeze in shaded areas. Camas Prairie and areas around Grangeville could experience bursts of heavier wet snow before midmorning, briefly reducing visibility and increasing stopping distances. Idaho Transportation Department crews are monitoring conditions, but drivers should prepare for slow travel and possible temporary closures in higher terrain.
Officials urge drivers to reduce speed, increase following distance, and check Idaho 511 before heading out. Travel over higher passes may become dangerous if snowfall rates intensify before 10 a.m.
Snowfall tapers late this morning, but slick spots could linger into early afternoon as temperatures hover near freezing. Additional advisories may follow if conditions worsen.
