Boise, Idaho – Cooler air will settle across Idaho by Thursday, bringing a noticeable drop in temperatures along with increasing chances for rain and mountain snow through the weekend.

According to the National Weather Service and NOAA’s Climate Prediction Center, much of Idaho is in a 40 to 50 percent probability zone for below-normal temperatures from April 16 through April 20. A broad trough across the western U.S. will drive cooler air into the region while increasing moisture.

In Boise and across Ada and Canyon counties, highs are expected to range from 55 to 63°F during the afternoon hours, with overnight lows dipping into the upper 30s to low 40s. Along the I-84 corridor, breezy conditions and scattered showers could create brief travel impacts, especially during the morning commute.

Twin Falls and south-central Idaho will see similar highs in the upper 50s to low 60s, while Idaho Falls and eastern areas will trend cooler with highs in the low to mid-50s. In higher elevations, including the Sawtooth and Salmon River Mountains, periods of snow are possible, particularly overnight.

The precipitation outlook shows a 40 to 50 percent chance of above-normal precipitation during this period, with a mix of valley rain and mountain snow expected across much of the state.

Residents should prepare for cooler temperatures, wet roads, and changing conditions, especially in higher elevations where travel could be impacted.

This cooler, unsettled pattern is expected to persist through April 20, with additional advisories likely as systems continue to move through the region into early next week.
